Sometimes we chose careers with our eyes close and later
realize it’s not what we want to do.in many cases this happens. I’ve grown to
love Public Relations a lot. If you think Public Relations is the career for
you maybe you should ask yourself a few questions first.

Know what public relations are
Do we understand what Public
Relations is and what a PRO does. Think about it, how we know that this is
really what you want to do. Do we have those abilities of creating relationships
and maintaining it with different stakeholders?
·
Interests
Public Relations as we all know is having
interest of what goes on around us. Do we have a huge interest in what is
happening every day and keeping up to date with trends? Are we interested in
being part of these trends?
·
Level of communication
PR Officers we must be confident talking to
a wide range of people. Also Public Relations Officer we have to have a high
level of communication. That is a very important part of the career. This is because we have to build and maintain relationships
on a daily basis. Our communication skills does not only mean verbal but
written as well.
·
Handling pressure
Being a Public Relations Officer we must be
able to handle pressure because we have to keep to strict deadlines. We do know
that Public Relations can be a very demanding profession. From events to press
releases and press conferences. Dealing with the media on, on going basis.
·
Be innovative and move with times
PR Officers we
need to be aware of current trends and issues. Keeping up to date with the world
around you is vital when counselling clients or brainstorming campaign ideas. We
should know what has been done and what we can do better.
